The Returnees Campaign is a national, rights-focused movement established to support Sudanese citizens affected by the conflict that erupted on April 15, 2023. Our mission is to end the war, secure justice for victims, and enable the safe return of those forced from their homes. We aim to uphold the fundamental rights of displaced families and advocate for reparations and criminal justice for the injustices they have endured.

Our Goals And Vision

Supporting Safe Returns and Rejecting Camps

We believe displaced families have the right to return to their homes rather than being forced to live in refugee or displacement camps. Our campaign envisions Sudanese families resuming their lives in their rightful communities and seeks to mobilize resources to make safe, dignified returns possible.

Pushing for Reparations and Compensation

The Returnees Campaign emphasizes fair compensation and reparations for victims. We continue to document cases and advocate for every family affected by the conflict, ensuring they receive recognition and support. Despite challenges in communication and access, we have already registered over 5,663 affected families with international authorities and continue to gather reports from those in need.

The Family Forced to Flee Twice

a 57-year-old woman was forced to flee her home during the attack. With elderly and sick relatives unable to make the journey, she had to leave them behind, including her 80-year-old father and an amputee relative. This was her second displacement, having earlier fled violence in Khartoum. Her family is now among millions displaced, facing severe shortages of food and basic necessities

Salim’s Battle in Al Gezira

Salim, a farmer from Al Gezira, experienced firsthand the RSF’s brutality when his village was attacked. During the RSF’s invasion, his home was looted, and many civilians were killed. Salim witnessed RSF fighters committing sexual assaults against women and girls in front of their families. The violence included gang rapes and forced sexual acts, aimed at terrorizing the population and suppressing any opposition to the RSF’s control.

Fatima’s Ordeal in Tamboul

Fatima, a 55-year-old woman from Tamboul, witnessed the brutal tactics of the RSF forces during an attack on her town. On October 22, RSF soldiers stormed her neighborhood, firing indiscriminately into homes. Fatima saw a man shot in the chest as the soldiers demanded everyone leave. They specifically targeted individuals they suspected of having ties to the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), threatening to kill anyone related to them. Fearing for her life and that of her children, Fatima had to flee her home, leaving behind neighbors who were brutally killed by the RSF.

A Father's Desperate Escape

In El Geneina, Adam, a father of three, was forced to flee with his family when RSF forces attacked his neighborhood. He witnessed the destruction of his home as soldiers set fire to entire blocks, killing anyone who resisted. Adam carried his injured son for miles to find safety but lost track of his wife and youngest daughter amidst the chaos. Months later, he remains in a displacement camp, unable to locate his missing family members

A Mother's Fight to Protect Her Children

In Tamboul, Fatima, a single mother, stood helpless as RSF soldiers stormed her village. They looted her home and beat her eldest son for trying to defend their property. Fatima fled with her two younger children, enduring a perilous journey through conflict zones. Now living in temporary shelter, she struggles to find food and medicine for her family while coping with the trauma of what they endured
